This is a private reference site, not the Smith County Sheriff's Department or another government office. We cannot confirm custody, release anyone, post bond, schedule visits, or retrieve an official booking record. Contact the responsible agency for those services.

Choose the Official Source

The correct contact depends on whether the question concerns present custody, an older record, a court result, or state incarceration.

  • For a Smith County booking record or photograph, review the request steps on the home page and send a focused request to the actual custodian.
  • For current county-jail status, contact the sheriff or use Kansas VINE when the facility participates. The jail publishes no online booking roster.
  • For a possible warrant, use Sheriff's Most Wanted to reach the sheriff and court verification routes.
  • For a court outcome, contact the 17th Judicial District clerk or use Kansas District Court public access. A booking charge is not a disposition.
  • For a person sentenced to state custody, use the Kansas Department of Corrections KASPER search. For federal or immigration custody, use the BOP or ICE locator.

Smith County Sheriff and Jail

The sheriff's office and jail are the local contacts for county custody questions and for confirming who holds a requested booking record. The official jail page states that there is no online booking roster. Call before visiting because office availability is not the same as the jail's published Tuesday visitation period.

Requesting a County Record

Smith County publishes an open-records page and a written KORA form. Identify the person, narrow date range, arresting agency, and exact record requested. Ask whether a booking photograph is maintained and disclosable, and request a cost estimate before research begins. Kansas law generally requires action on a request by the end of the third business day, but that is not a promise that every record will be produced by then. Fees and exemptions may apply.

Corrections to a government record must go to the office that created or keeps it. This private site cannot amend a sheriff file, a court docket, a KDOC record, or a private publisher's page.

An arrest record contains an accusation only. Charges may change or be dismissed, and every person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
